My first days with Kubuntu as my main OS — Part 1
Background
It all started with Windows XP getting infected with some kind of malware or virus which i’m not sure about. I was greeted with this error.
” lsass.exe has encountered an error. Your system will shutdown in 60 seconds. “
I remembered the shutdown.exe -a command and managed to stop the shutdown countdown. I searched Google looking for solutions to my problem. Found a Microsoft KB article and performed the steps indicated. In the meantime ran a Spybot check for malware. Spybot found some illegal exceptions of firewall and fixed it. I rebooted the system only to find that my network connections were broken. I rumbled through the network settings trying to do something and couldn’t fix it.
P.S. I had installed Kubuntu 9.04 just days before this tragedy happened.

So I booted into Kubuntu since couldn’t live without the Internet. My Firefox in Kubuntu looked and felt very much like Firefox in Windows XP. Meebo firefox edition did not work in Kubuntu. All my other favorite extensions were working perfectly. I forgot to mention how much i liked the KDE desktop with Plasmoids. Plasmoids are what we call as widgets in windows and mac. The UI was much better than Windows XP. Here is my Kubuntu desktop.

Panels are the coolest things in Plasma. You can add a number of panels. The one that looks like a dock at the top of my desktop is actually a panel. The phonon notifications are really useful and unobtrusive.
To be continued…
