My first days with Kubuntu as my main OS — Part 2
Note: Part1 can be found here
Kickoff Application Launcher
The Kickoff Lanucher is much better than the Windows XP or the Windows Vista start menu. The applications are arranged in appropriate sections whereas in Windows overtime the start menu becomes unusable because of the large number of apps. It also has a search on the top which is similar in Windows Vista.

Dolphin File Manager
Dolphin File Manager is neither better nor worse than Windows Explorer. It has a great UI. There were things which i missed and wished i had in Dolphin when compared to Windows Explorer. Places bar on the right is really useful.

Finding my favorite apps
I started installing VLC media player (in Package Manager), Songbird, Opera, Picasa, Boxee. Found out how useful repositories are to install and update applications. Repositories are basically a server containing software packages. Google and Boxee have their own Linux repositories. Just add the URL of the repositories to Software Sources list and voila perform a search of the app and install it right away. When there is a update, a phonon notification notifies me to update the software.
Finding the Task Manager In Linux (System Activity)
I ran into some crashing of Opera which made me press Ctrl+Shift+Esc. Obviously this is not windows, so nothing happened. Then i found the System Activity shortcut Ctrl+Esc. It looks similar to task manager and you can kill unresponsive processes here. To change the keyboard shortcuts go to System Settings->Keyboard & Mouse->Global Keyboard Shortcuts.
